[H] Homeopathy in the News

Boiron USA, Vitamin Angels Partner Again

For the second consecutive year, Boiron USA partnered with
Vitamin Angels, a global non-profit organization working to
reduce child mortality by connecting infants and children under
five with vital nutrients. Starting in September 2011 for a
limited time, Boiron, homeopathic medicine provider, will donate
a percentage of sales to Vitamin Angels from boxes of
Oscillococcinum packed in a specially marked custom display. The
proceeds from each purchased box of Oscillo, a homeopathic flu
medicine, are enough to provide one child with vitamin A for one
year.

It's been 100 years and counting for Family Doctors of

Homeopathy new ray of hope in dengue-hit districts

While the authorities continue to battle increasing cases of
dengue, which has no known vaccine, homeopathy practitioners are
cashing in on the situation and are selling 'preventive'
medicines in Dhenkanal. People from Angul and Dhenkanal district
seem to be making a beeline for homeopathy clinics to buy
medicines to prevent the vector-borne disease.

Reality on Trial: Homeopathy v. the Blogosphere

Boiron has dropped the suit against Riva. Smart move on their
part, I imagine - even in these odd times I think it would be
difficult to make a case for the legitimacy of their products.
It's too bad, I'd hoped that the suit would be covered widely
and help to educate people about the absurdity of homeopathy.

Homeopathy and "plausibility bias" versus science

One of the things that distinguishes evidence-based medicine EBM
and science-based medicine SBM is how the latter takes into
account prior probability that a therapy is likely to work when
considering clinical trials. My favorite example to demonstrate
this difference, because it's so stark and obvious, is
homeopathy. Homeopathy, as regular readers of this blog no doubt
know by now, is a mystical, magical system of medicine based on
two principles.
