Yes, I wasn't sure whether you were just teasing. :-) Okay: got me.
I think that this confusion you refer to between definition of homoeopathic
practice and particulars of practice -- if that's even what you mean -- is
no more helpful than the confusion between homoeopathic practice and
medicinal relationship.
Or perhaps you're harking back to Irene's assertion that the principle of
homoeopathy was merely a particular expression of some universal principle
of likeness, which would be an unfortunate regression in the conversation,
as we collectively dealt with all that years ago on another list.
It's a confusion that I've seen arise only when you or Irene has expressed
it. Otherwise, most people familiar with homoeopathy seem to have
understood that Hahnemann formulated the principle of homoeopathic *practice
*, the imperative law of similars (*Similia similibus curentur*), from the *
observed* principle of medicinal relationships, the indicative law of
similars (*Similia similibus [curantur]*), a principle he drew, by
induction, from careful observations, clinical experiments, and historical
research. I've yet to see any *universal* law of similars expressed that
relates to reality.
Incidentally, I think it's as well to consider always the possibility that
Hahnemann was wrong about some conclusions or even all of them. What he
cannot be wrong about is what homoeopathy means!
