the list) took 16 hours less to arrive than the list copy, and arrived with
capital letters intact. Something strange is happening with list mail, I
think.
To repeat the gist of my reply direct to Susan: it's actually much easier
to convey this message with a number of viewpoints chipping in and
expressing insights in their authors' own ways.
(In that light, the URL Jamie Taylor has given is of a brilliant
introduction to an outstanding debate conducted through various discrete
articles, each downloadable at that URL.)
Susan may, depressingly, be right about some homoeopaths' motivations. But
apathy and discouragement may explain much: they believe that real
homoeopathy is going to fail them (rather than recognise the hope that lies
in acknowledging that it is they who have failed homoeopathy).
The trouble with boards and other gatekeepers is that they easily wield
authority rather than common sense or wisdom -- which they find ways to
silence. At least in the wild west of the Internet, the town can still
call a meeting if it is so moved, and reason may prevail. Once gatekeepers
get involved, reason and the debate that may present it make easy targets
in the cause of the new status quo.
Kind regards,
John

"Do pertussis vaccines prevent children and adults from breathing in
pertussis bacteria from the air? No. Do children vaccinated with the
pertussis vaccine somehow stop carrying pertussis bacteria in their airways
simply because they've been vaccinated? No. Do pertussis vaccines stop
vaccinated children from transmitting the pertussis bacteria to other
people? No. Do pertussis bacteria disappear from society once vaccination
rates are high? No.
"Vaccination rates for pertussis have no impact on whether the pertussis
bacteria are in the air or not, or whether or not we breathe them in. The
presence of the pertussis bacteria, and the exposure to them, are in no way
affected by vaccination status or vaccination rates."
