Whenever someone expresses an opinion based on personal
experience, especially in the field of medicine and that opinion
varies from the view held by the listener the usual response
nowadays is, "Well, that's just anecdotal. The science doesn't
agree with you." That statement sounds so convincing. After all,
we can and do make mistakes in our observations. We make
connections that aren't there. But, does that make anecdotal
evidence invalid? And are science-based answers necessarily
correct? In a word, No.
Natural Healing
I had no idea what homeopathy actually was until I read about
it in Natural Healing. In a time when microbes, viruses and
insect vectors were unknown as the agents of disease, the
concept of "treating with similars" advanced by Christian
Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann caught hold in Germany and spread
through Europe and its colonies. When in 1838, American senator
and homeopathic doctor Royal Samuel Copeland promoted the
passage of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, homeopathy was
recognized as a profession. Over sixty years later, this
continues to exempt it from having to demonstrate effectiveness
of its remedies to the FDA through testing.
Alternative Therapies Aren't Used as Substitutes for Asthma Meds: Study
Almost one in five parents has turned to an alternative or
complementary medicine or treatment for their child's asthma,
but new research has found that parents are not abandoning
traditional treatments in the process.
Swim to help homeopathic AIDs clinic
A homeopath and reiki teacher in Edington is planning a
fundraising swim with friends, to raise funds for a volunteer
project in Botswana which she will join next month. Anne
Tottingham, a practicing homeopath for 16 years, will be working
with AIDS sufferers in Botswana, through the Maun Homeopathy
Project, for seven weeks.
Medicine and its rivals
By one recent count four in ten American adults use some form of
alternative therapy. If Dr Weil's flourishing business and other
programmes are any indication, these will grow even further. For
six decades double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trials
have helped doctors to sort science from opinion and to sift
evidence from anecdote. Now those lines are blurring.
Disturbing claims by homeopaths
Most distressingly, homeopaths have provided homeopathic
vaccines for a range of conditions from MMR to malaria. What you
need to be aware of is that homeopathic vaccines contain nothing
but the water or water/alcohol mix they were originally
dissolved in. If your child received such a vaccine, s/he would
not be immunised.
Birth on the Edge
Deal with the trauma first: I reach for the homeopathic Arnica
and administer a dose to the not-so-little Oliver. Almost
immediately, his wailing ebbs into deep sobs. Gently placing my
hands on his right arm is all it takes and I know that we are
looking at one, maybe two broken bones. Midwife Agung Mas hands
me the Arnica ointment as we try to relieve some of the trauma
topically. I used a large elastic bandage to stabilize the arm,
strapping it securely to the child's body.
Asheville-area parents turn to complementary medicine
Increasingly, parents are interested in natural remedies, said
Dr. Steven Coward, a naturopathic doctor at Asheville Natural
Health Homeopathy. That's especially true in Asheville, which
tends to attract people who love the outdoors and believe in the
healing power of nature.
Depraved 'doctor', 77, and wife, 35, jailed for sexually abusing patients he falsely diagnosed with cancer
A disabled pensioner who peddled alternative medicine as a cover
to molest women has been jailed for eight years. Reginald Gill,
77, used a bizarre electrical probe to falsely diagnose that his
victims had cancer. He then carried out intrusive physical
examinations of his naked "patients" before claiming that he had
cured them.

on a mission for more than four decades. Eighty-five-year-old
homeopath Dr Dinesh Prasad has been curing patients for past 45

on for bringing new policy for developing the homeopathic
medical education. "Modern medical science has overshadowed
Homeopathic Medical Science HMS that is famous among the
public," said Sharma.
