Yes, it is self-evident -- with this caveat: that "proper" denote "most
effective" rather than "true".

Here, the criterion you mention, of the use of broader understanding,
concern only better practice, *not* whether one is practising at all.
Without distinguishing a criterion for practising homoeopathy effectively
and well from a criterion for practising it at all, thought and discussion
of homoeopathy's boundaries remain susceptible to the confusion that
discussion on the Minutus list continually fell into some years ago.

With that clear, there can be no excuse for (readers') inferring, from the
"necessity" (i.e. desirability) of one condition for good or better
practice of homoeopathy (a condition that we must recognise as inessential
to practising homoeopath at all), that an absolute condition for practising
it *at all* is similarly inessential.

In other words, it is essential for all of us that we understand clearly
that the proposition

(a) that understanding pathological effects at an organic level and
treating them by some practice other than homoeopathy may in fact make the
homoeopathic prescription more effective and useful

-- a proposition of whose truth there can be no doubt -- should not be
misunderstood to be a logical basis for an entirely different and *demonstrably
false* proposition:

(b) that any regime (such as treatment of pathological effects at an
organic level by some practice other than homoeopathy) that increases the
utility of homoeopathic treatment *is* homoeopathy.

I hope it is patently clear that such a logical leap cannot be justified.

I'll address in particular Irene's reference to alternating treatment of
multiple disease states, a subject she discusses artfully, in response to
her message.

Kind regards,

John
